Our yearly apple picking trip, to a beautiful orchard just a short drive away…to mad tom orchard in east dorset.
Some autumn cuteness…
Our town, and yard…in fall…
And the making and canning of applesauce! Thank goodness for 18 quart crockpots! We use it so often, for soups, stocks, tomatoes, and apples….
I use the handy dandy old fashioned turny peeler…with a little help from the littles, put in the crockpot with a cup or so of cider or water, and let it cook all day, adding more apples as they cook down a bit. I add a few sticks of cinnamon. I usually make a few batches, one plain (no sugar or spices), one nicely spiced with cinnamin, some nutmeg, and allspice, with a couple of cups sugar, and one with some sugar, and some strawberries and blueberries from the summers freezing of extras.
I water bath can these, in sterilized jars, for 15 minutes, to enjoy all winter!
Next up, getting the root cellar ready!
Drying all the beans we just picked….
And mastering the Greek yogurt making
Getting the garlic planted
(Done, thank goodness..)
And getting ready for the long vermont winter!
